Valencia Flavors: 5 Tastes You Need To Experience

My trip to the beautiful city of Valencia in Spain was indeed short, but that didn’t limit my ability to explore much of the scrumptious food and beverages that this stunning Spanish destination is known for. My taste buds were in for a treat as I went through a culinary journey, trying out some mandatory dishes that Valencia boasts of and uncovering a few hidden gems I stumbled upon by pure luck. Believe me when I say every single experience was mouth-wateringly delightful!

I highly recommend checking out the top five items on my must-try list for those interested in Valencia’s gastronomic delights. These culinary delights reminded me of Valencia’s rich history and culture, and I am sure they will leave you with a lasting impression and a desire to return for more.

Paella Is a Must in Valencia!

valencia experiences to try

Valencia is the birthplace of paella, a delicious Spanish dish with rice, saffron, vegetables, chicken, or seafood. I recommend you try it at least once on your visit to Valencia. Many restaurants serve paella at reasonable prices, and some even give you a glass of sangria to go with it. Don’t miss out on this traditional food during your culinary adventure in Valencia!

Enjoy A Horchata at Horchatería de Santa Catalina

horchateria. A valencia experience to try

If you’ve never tried a horchata, now is the time to try your first! Located next to the Old Town, you can find one of the oldest horchaterías in the city. Unlike Latin America, where the refreshing drink is made with rice, this drink is made with tiger nuts, which is part of what gives it a unique taste. It’s the perfect drink for Valencia’s hot days!

Try Anything At Chocolates Valor

one of the 5 valencia experiences

Chocolate lovers, this place is for you! Having been in business since 1881, Chocolates Valor has had plenty of time to perfect its craft! Choose from various milkshakes, hot chocolate, and pastries, or enjoy their brunch menu (and then dessert!). There’s so much to indulge in here!

Sip On A Glass Of Agua De Valencia

Made for the first time in Valencia in 1959, this Agua de Valencia (or Valencian Water) is a popular drink in town. It is typically served in a pitcher for 2-8 people. You can find it in many bars and restaurants but one place in particular, Cafe de las Horas, is well-known for serving the best! You can also view one of my older blog posts for a recipe here

Enjoy A Delicious Meal At Almunia

I stumbled across this delightful restaurant accidentally. However, Almunia turned out to be my best meal in Valencia. After searching all day for La Negrita (the mural I was so obsessed with in one of my previous blog posts), I stopped to take a break here. The menú del día (menu of the day) was affordable and included several courses. Besides, I’d never tried Moroccan food, so I wanted the experience. I would highly recommend it for great food and service!
